The skyhooks famously sang that ego was not a dirty word, but I’m not talking about the big, monstering power-addicted egos that seem to be marching around everywhere. Those big bossy egos that everywhere you look seems to be crippling the world? Those egos are the ones that quite often run huge companies or even nations. So do you need to have a huge ego to be able to pull off these big jobs in life? Is it a prerequisite for these roles to have no care at all for the individuals who make up the bulk of the company or the nation that they are representing? Has the world got so bad and so competitive that just to be able to survive and exist out there you have to be so completely all out toughened and selfish that you literally don’t give a stuff about anything or anyone? That’s what it looks like from my humble position in the mail room, its every man for himself, there is no room or selflessness at all now in society? Ego might not be a dirty word but it’s certainly not clean.

My mother went to talk to a physiotherapist about getting post operation treatment on her shoulder. I actually recommended him – he is walking distance, he uses a scenar machine and he is a christian so you expect him to have a strong conscience. It is quite a significant operation so it will need three months of physio twice a week if not more. She talked to him about a treatment plan for ten minutes, then he booked her first appointment and then charged her eighty dollars for a full half hour appointment! What christian conscience ?– What a joke! My mother was disgusted – she said to me if she had any guts she would have said ‘you’re kidding aren’t you – you’re going to charge me for 10mins of your time – and I’m just about to spend $3000 on physiotherapy at your practice – you can forget it’. She really wishes she walked out.
